The boy — named David Daniel Otunga Jr., after his father, Hudson’s fiancee — weighed in at a healthy seven pounds, 14 ounces, the Web site said.

The Hollywood Reporter said that the couple did not know the baby’s gender in advance but were prepared in either case, having bought both pink and blue clothes.

In May, she celebrated her pregnancy with a baby shower in downtown Chicago.

Hudson and her powerhouse vocals shot to fame when she was a contestant on “American Idol.” After she was eliminated from the show early on, she was cast as Effie White in “Dreamgirls,” a powerhouse performance that won her an Oscar.

In October 2008, her sister’s estranged husband killed her mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew. Hudson moved from Chicago after the tragedy.

A weekend baby shower in downtown Chicago confirmed what has long been rumored: Jennifer Hudson is pregnant.

“It was a baby shower, a quiet gathering of friends and mostly family,” singer/actress Felicia Fields, a longtime Hudson friend, said of Saturday’s get-together in a relative’s home. “They’re really trying to keep it kind of quiet.”

South Side native Hudson, the 27-year-old singing star who won the 2006 best supporting actress Oscar for “Dreamgirls,” is engaged to former reality TV star David Otunga, who’s currently pursuing a pro wrestling career. Hudson has said she no longer would live in Chicago after her mother, Darnell Donerson, brother Jason and nephew Julian King were found murdered in October, with William Balfour, the estranged husband of Jennifer’s sister Julia, charged with the crimes.

Hudson recently finished a co-headlining concert tour with singer Robin Thicke, with an April 25 show at the Arie Crown Theatre. Her manager and publicist previously denied that she is pregnant.

“It was a nice time that we had,” Fields said of the shower. She didn’t want to get into when the baby is due, but speculation is that Hudson is many months along—an impression bolstered by her appearance of late.

As for whether Hudson received blue or pink gifts, Fields said, “They don’t know [the gender]. More yellow.”

Jennifer was on the Today show this morning as some of you know, and she performed “Spotlight”, “If This Isn’t Love”, “Love You I Do” and “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”. Due to vocal chord strain, R&B singer Jennifer Hudson has been forced to postpone four shows and cancel another on her first official tour of the U.S. in order to give her throat a rest.

Hudson’s May 7 show at the Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie, TX, just outside Dallas, has been rescheduled for May 16; the May 8 concert at the Verizon Theatre in Houston, TX, has been moved to May 17; and the May 3 performance at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, CA, has been rescheduled for May 19.

Hudson’s May 5 gig at the Dodge Theatre in Phoenix, AZ, has been postponed, but the make up date has not been released yet.

The Baltimore, MD, show at Pier 6 Pavilion on May 15 has been cancelled according to Hudson’s official Web site, though tickets continue to be sold through Ticketmaster and the venue Web site. She will perform on NBC’s “Today” show that morning, which was on the original itinerary with the Baltimore show.

Refunds for the cancelled performance will be available at the point of purchase, while tickets holders can use their tickets at the rescheduled performances. Robin Thicke is the opening act on the tour.

Hudson, one of the finalists on “American Idol” in 2004, is on the road promoting her eponymous debut album released in 2008. Before it was released, she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the 2006 film “Dreamgirls.”
